Basic Resources and Gold: Turn Start Rules for Eve of Midnight: Reimagine Calamity
⚠️ Superseded by spec 024. Basic resources and the Gold/turn economy described below are retired —
cards are no longer paid for with resources. Tempo is now governed by The Action Meter;
the former Resource cards fold into Sortilege & Relic persistent enhancements.
Retained for historical reference.
1. Overview
Basic resources and Gold are fundamental to gameplay, providing the means to activate abilities, play cards, and interact with various mechanics. These resources are balanced to encourage strategic depth while maintaining accessibility.
2. Basic Resource Pool
2.1 Pool Composition
- The shared resource pool consists of 8 basic resource types, one for each archetype:
- Artifice Resource
- Arcane Resource
- Cybernetic Resource
- Devoid Resource
- Flux Resource
- Mythos Resource
- Pestilence Resource
- Occult Resource
2.2 Starting Pool
- For a 2-player game, each resource type begins with 10 tokens in the shared pool.
- For every additional player, add 5 tokens of each resource type to the pool.
3. Turn Start Rules
3.1 Basic Resource Allocation
- At the start of each turn, players gain 1 free basic resource from the shared pool.
- The chosen resource is moved to the player’s Active Play Zone and becomes available for channeling.
3.2 Gold Accumulation
- Players gain 5 Gold at the start of each turn.
- Players begin the game with 10 Gold to enable early strategic plays.
- Unspent Gold carries over between turns, allowing for strategic saving.
4. Allocating Additional Resources
4.1 Additional Allocations
- Players may allocate extra basic resources during their turn by spending 3 Gold per resource.
- Allocated resources are moved from the shared pool to the player’s Active Play Zone.
5. Deallocating Resources
5.1 Channeling
- When a basic resource is channeled, it is deallocated and returned to the shared pool.
5.2 Forced Deallocation
- If a basic resource is removed from play by an effect, it is immediately deallocated to the shared pool.
6. Strategic Use of Basic Resources and Gold
6.1 Turn Economy
- Carefully plan your resource allocation to maximize efficiency.
- Use Gold to allocate additional resources or activate powerful abilities.
6.2 Synergy with Cards and Abilities
- Certain cards and abilities may generate or manipulate resources and Gold, providing strategic advantages.
- Example:
- “Channel 1 Occult Resource: Apply a Hex to an opponent’s character.”
- “Spend 2 Gold to allocate 1 additional resource from the pool.”
