Lore and other documents for the Eve of Midnight game
Status (spec 024): Delivered (data + transactions). The number in a card’s upper-right corner is no longer a play cost — it is an Aurorune monetary value, a shop price shown only in Stores / Sanctums / Forges. The derivation weights are BALANCE.
Previously the upper-right corner held a resource cost (2 Arcane, …) paid to play the card. With the
resource economy retired (see The Action Meter), that corner becomes the card’s Aurorune
value — what it is worth at a shop.
Support cards only — Incantation, Machination, Subterfuge, Cantrip, Sortilege, Relic — carry an Aurorune value and can be bought and sold. Characters / Heroes come from run mechanics (Forge / Sanctum, paid in Lichenor / Solanir), and Worlds / Tokens are never priced.
Every support card’s value is derived deterministically at bake from its cost (the former resource cost, now only a pricing seed) and its rarity:
value = max(1, totalCostPips · CostWeight + rarityTier · RarityWeight). The weights are BALANCE.floor(value × sellBackRate), with a default rate of 50%. The rate
is a seam a run modifier can raise or lower. A 1-value card sold at 50% pays 0 — selling the cheapest
cards is intentionally unprofitable.
