Eve of Midnight: Reimagine Calamity - Reserve Mechanic Rules
⚠️ Superseded by spec 024. The Reserve zone is renamed the Lattice and repurposed to hold
persistent enhancement supports (Sortilege & Relic) rather than channeled
resources (see Zones). Retained for historical reference.
What is the Reserve Mechanic?
The Reserve Mechanic allows players to set aside key Support Cards for future use without counting them toward their current hand limit. It’s designed to encourage strategic planning and smooth gameplay while limiting reactive play styles.
How Does Reserving Work?
Step-by-Step Rules:
- Reserving Cards:
- At the end of your turn, you may choose up to 2 Support Cards from your hand to place into the Reserve Zone.
- Reserved cards are placed face down to indicate they cannot be used during the current turn.
- What Happens to Reserved Cards?:
- Reserved cards remain in the Reserve Zone until your next turn.
- These cards do not count toward your hand limit of 5 when you redraw at the end of your turn.
- Retrieving Reserved Cards:
- During your next turn, you may add reserved cards back to your hand at any time during the Action Phase.
- Once added to your hand, reserved cards can be played like any other Support Cards.
- Limitations:
- Reserved cards are locked and cannot be used or interacted with during your opponent’s turn.
- Cards in the Reserve Zone are not affected by discard effects or Support Card abilities unless specifically stated.
Why Use the Reserve Mechanic?
Reserving is a way to:
- Protect powerful cards for the perfect moment.
- Maintain strategic flexibility without discarding key pieces of your strategy.
- Ensure you always have useful options while keeping gameplay balanced and fair.
Key Differences from Other Games
- Unlike Magic: The Gathering, where players can hold their hand indefinitely, reserved cards are separate and temporarily unavailable.
- Unlike Hearthstone, reserved cards don’t force discarding your entire hand; you can plan your moves without losing critical cards.
Simplified Explanation
“At the end of your turn, you can reserve up to 2 Support Cards. Reserved cards are stored separately and carried to your next turn but can’t be used until then. They don’t count toward your hand limit when you redraw to 5 cards.”
