Eve of Midnight: Reimagine Calamity - Player Interaction Guidelines
Overview
Player interactions are an essential part of Eve of Midnight: Reimagine Calamity, allowing for dynamic and strategic gameplay. These guidelines ensure clarity, fairness, and accessibility when players target or interact with each other’s cards, characters, and resources.
Interaction Rules
1. Targeting Opponent’s Cards
- Players may target an opponent’s cards only if a card or ability explicitly allows it.
- Support Cards:
- Players can target opponent’s Support Cards if permitted by specific effects or abilities.
- Protection mechanics may restrict targeting (e.g., “This card cannot be targeted by opponents.”).
- Resource Cards:
- Players can disrupt or modify an opponent’s resources only if explicitly allowed.
2. Targeting Characters
- Players may affect an opponent’s character only through specific cards or abilities.
- Effects may:
- Deal damage or apply penalties (e.g., “Reduce an opponent’s Ambition by 2.”).
- Apply status effects (e.g., disabling the character).
- Characters with protective effects cannot be targeted unless specified.
3. Interacting with The Rift
- Cards in The Rift (discard zone) are only accessible if an effect explicitly allows interaction.
- Examples of allowed interactions:
- “Return a Support Card from The Rift to your Archive.”
- “Exile a card from The Rift to prevent an effect.”
4. Protection Mechanics
- Some cards or abilities provide protection to cards, characters, or resources.
- Examples:
- “Shield of Light: This character cannot be disabled this turn.”
- “Aegis Barrier: All Support Cards in your Active Play Area are immune to targeting for one round.”
- Protection effects are temporary unless otherwise stated.
5. Cooperative and Competitive Mechanics
- Shared Goals:
- Some World Tasks or Objectives may encourage cooperative play, allowing players to work together.
- Direct Competition:
- Players may compete for limited resources, Tasks, or victory conditions.
- Example Cooperative Scenario:
- “Contribute 5 resources collectively to complete the Task.”
- Example Competitive Scenario:
- “The first player to resolve 3 Tasks gains an additional reward.”
Interaction Guidelines
- Clear Communication:
- Players should announce and clearly describe their intended actions when interacting with other players or their cards.
- Resolving Effects:
- Resolve interactions in the order they occur, ensuring all mandatory effects are applied before optional ones.
- Fair Play:
- Avoid ambiguous actions; all interactions must align with the card text and game rules.
